5 tips for relaxation

"Fall in love with taking care of yourself. Mind. Body. Spirit." - Power of Positivity

Our days move a million miles a minute and even though we tell ourselves we won't let this happen, it usually always does. It is important though to take some time in the day for yourself, even if just 15 minutes. Below are some ways to help you relax on those more than often crazy days...

1.) Meditate. A few minutes a day can help you ease anxiety. “Research suggests that daily meditation may alter the brain's neural pathways, making you more resilient to stress,” says psychologist Robbie Maller Hartman, PhD, a Chicago health and wellness coach.

2.) Breathe deeply. Take a 5-minute break and focus on your breathing. “Deep breathing counters the effects of stress by slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure” psychologist Judith Tutin, PhD, says. She's a certified life coach in Rome, GA.

3.) Play some music. Research shows that listening to soothing music can lower blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety. Create a playlist of songs, and allow your mind to focus on the different melodies, instruments and singers.

4.) Exercise. I know, I know it may not sound like the funnest thing to do, but a good workout could actually make you feel more relaxed afterwards. Exercise is a great way to release stress and blow off steam and also the endorphins released during a good workout can aid in relaxation.

5.) Put away your phone. The more often people check social media accounts, texts, and email, the higher their level of stress, revealed the American Psychological Association's 2017 Stress in America report. Findings from the Pew Research Center underline another negative Facebook effect: Women are particularly vulnerable to stress from social media due to being aware of lousy stuff happening to friends.
